New single & video from The Heavy: Sixteen

The Heavy follow up the garage-band madness of “Oh No! Not You Again!” with pure vintage voodoo soul . “Sixteen” asks the question: how much can you learn in sixteen years? The answer is, a hell of a lot, but none of it good. The story of a girl who wants to grow up too fast, taking in dancing with the devil, nightclubbing, drinking & piping on the magic whistle.

Produced by Jim Abbiss (best known for his work with the Arctic Monkeys), “Sixteen” sees Swaby offering up a soaring soul vocal over a beat that swoops & bumps along just right.

All in all, another spine-tingling package from one of the most exciting bands in the UK just now, “Sixteen” is taken from The Heavy’s forthcoming second album, The House That Dirt Built on October 6th. You can find the single now exclusively on iTunes with a b-side titled “No Time”. It will be available everywhere else on July 7th. Bla bla bla… grab it for FREE below.

Free tix for Audrye Sessions’ summer dates

Tough economic times might keep some music lovers from catching their favorite band when they’re in town, but for fans of Audrye Sessions this may not be the case. The band is teaming up with Paper Route for the New Deal tour, which kicks off July 6th in Newport, KY & goes through the end of the month.

Fans can submit their tales of financial woe to audryesessionstour@gmail.com. The band will select the best stories in each city & give away free tickets- as many as the venue permits- to those people.

The idea for this tour struck a chord with the band. “Art thrives during difficult times…Times of economic crisis, political turmoil and social injustice always spark an artistic movement of some sort,” said Alicia Campbell, Audrye Sessions’ bass player. “The art of music should always remain accessible, especially in times like these…when it’s needed the most.”

Not a bad deal for one the best live acts that I’ve seen this year.

Spiral Beach announce sophomore album

Spiral Beach are sonic rebels unafraid of breaking all the rules and throwing a party in the process! The band’s love of exploring different sounds & song structures is offset by their sophisticated sense of melody & elaborate vocal harmonies. They have also re-imagined the format of a concert, making their shows epic blowouts that last until dawn & the band dances and even cooks with the audience! Playing in uncommon venues such as art galleries, community halls, & circus spaces, the group has created a rare interactive live show that has fans & critics itching for more.

Following the enormous success of their album Ball in their home country Canada, Spiral Beach will be releasing their sophomore effort The Only Really Thing this fall (09.22). Here’s your first listen, “Domino,” a kaleidoscopic duet of percussion & piano.

Spiral Beach is constantly pushing the boundaries of contemporary music. From their vintage inspired new-wave sound to their unforgettable live shows, they have already conquered their native Canada by playing numerous festivals (including Toronto’s Virgin Festival) and have been praised by outlets such as Much Music and Toronto’s The Edge. With The Only Really Thing, this daring & exhilarating band’s appeal is ready to take over new territory. If you’re In NYC, don’t miss Spiral Beach at Piano’s on July 15.
