Freebie from Forest Fire: Fortune Teller

Survival is the striking debut album from Forest Fire (out this week in the UK), 4 talented individuals who met in New York over the past few years & began making music together in 2008. They describe themselves as a punk band playing folk songs.

Survival was recorded over an 8 month period in two locations – Brooklyn & Portland. Meanwhile recording, the band set up a microphone in the centre of the studio & arranged themselves around it. As singer/songwriter Mark Thresher observes,

“We wanted to make really simple organic live recordings complete with flaws. Is was very important to us to start with something spontaneous. We usually chose to include performances that were wild and unhinged over more polished versions because we wanted that energy. Once we had the recordings we liked we overdubbed and processed them to make them sound as good as possible.”

The 1st single “Fortune Teller” was released on a limited hand stamped & numbered 7″ (only 300 copies). If you want the vinyl head over to Broken Sound.
