Acid Washed

The eponymous debut album from space-disco duo, Acid Washed is nearly here. Out on March 29th, Acid Washed sees Richard D’Alpert & Andrew Claristidge realize their vision of creating sophisticated electronics with a sharp pop aesthetic, using vintage & modern equipment.

Various luminaries have been involved in the project so far, significant contributions coming from Xaver Naudascher, Supersoul Recordings head honcho, & Anthony Burrill, the British designer. Xaver was the man to lead Acid Washed through the final mixing & additional production stage whilst Anthony’s striking geometric imagery adorns their record sleeves as well as being the hypnotic focal point of recent videos for debut 12″ General Motors, Detroit, America – Snake.

Here’s a previously unreleased remix of “Snake”, courtesy of Matthew Puffett a.k.a. Future Beat Alliance. The dynamic vocal from recent City Slang signing, Barbara Panther, gets sent on a journey through deep techno.

InnerSpeaker

Modular is proud to announce that Aussie sonic wanderers Tame Impala will unveil their debut album InnerSpeaker on May 21, & are taking to the road in May all over Australia (dates after the break).

Following on from their debut, self-titled EP, InnerSpeaker is Tame Impala’s chance to paint a far more extensive picture than before, and sure enough it redrafts the entire Tame Impala world as we knew it, into an explosive cosmic wonderland of ecstatic harmony & perfectly accessible journeys into inner space.

Recorded & produced by the band’s own Kevin Parker with Death In Vegas’ Tim Holmes on the engineer duties, in an enormous mansion with 180 degree views of the Indian Ocean in the middle of buttfuck nowhere a few hours south of Perth, InnerSpeaker is ensconced with a kind of inspired vastness not dislike the place it was made. It was then mixed in a completely different kind of nowhere, a log cabin surrounded by snow & deer in upstate New York, by renowned sonic maverick Dave Fridmann (MGMT/Flaming Lips).

Replacing Words with Other Words

Uncles is a collaboration between Dan Bateman & Will Schwartz, 2 Queens-based songwriters who grew up together in Yonkers, NY. They utilize a rotating ensemble to back their songs which includes a double bassist, violin, pianists, & drummers.

Their debut album, Replacing Words with Other Words (due April 15), is the last stage of a 2 year process of writing, recording, & subsequently scrapping original material. The 10 songs on the record that remain take you from story to story; each is a lyrical microcosm with its own unique characters. There’s a lot of sex on the record, some urban grit, a fair share of plaintive mid-western balladeering, tales of nursing-home dimentia, & plenty of violence, too.

It’s a musically diverse album, with different members of the Ensemble of Uncles bringing their training from free jazz, classical, & folk idioms to support the songs.
