…even though you’re with another girl

Danish producer & multi-instrumentalist Trentemøller recently debuted the video for “…Even Though You’re With Another Girl,” the 2nd single from his new album, Into The Great Wide Yonder. After the warm reaction to the long-player, Trentemøller also just released a single for this track, accompanied by a diverse set of remixes.

The video, directed by Adam Hashemi, plays like a surreal short film. The story centers around a man uncomfortable bringing his girlfriend to meet his parents, avoiding eye contact throughout the affair. Suddenly, things take an unexpected turn, as the room fills with steam, & the man flies out the window. He drifts away into unknown territory, filled with burlesque dancers, faceless figures & a carpet stained blood-red.

The single itself is on an extremely limited 7”, with the original version chiming & drifting across the A-side. Gracing the B-side is Mikael Simpson’s remix, which simply allows pianos, strings & tape overdubs to bring out the beauty in Josephine Philip’s (Darkness Falls) vocal.

Alongside the single comes a 12” that features remixes by Kollektiv Turmstrasse & Pantha Du Prince. The Kollektiv’s half of the record slaps a heavy dose of deep, dark funk into this lo-slung version. Pantha Du Prince’s creates a remix based on his trademark twinkling melodies and warmly grooving understated beats, twisting and turning with dubbed out vocals.

Sun of a gun

Oh Land is a peculiar new cinematic electropop Dane who recently sailed across the sea to the artistic haven of Brooklyn, NY. With an opera singer for a mother, a theater organist for a father & Björk’s Homogenic on constant rotation, Oh Land was enraptured by the combination of experimental & classical arts. “My goal is to sound like I’m from 2050, but still feel really classic, like the music is an old friend,” said Oh Land. She spent her days pirouetting as a ballet dancer at the Danish Royal Ballet Academy when an injury forced her to reinvent herself & discover her true talent and passion as a musician.

Oh Land soon released her 1st album, Fauna, which garnered critical acclaim in her homeland of Denmark. Her soundscapes are lavish, crunchy, symphonic, brute & captivated with rhythms that fly apart. She translates the sounds live via her “contraption” – a homemade one-woman-band music box topped with balloon video projections (seeing is believing). Her music is for movement & new songs such as the thumping “Sun of a Gun” & euphoric “White Nights” have proven to make even the most portentous get up & dance. Having been discovered by Epic Records at 2009’s SXSW, she is currently putting the finishing touches on her US debut album & an EP to be released this fall. In anticipation for that release, Oh Land also has a great run of remixes for her 1st single “Sun of a Gun”. Enjoy:

Down by the water

Riding a wave of international acclaim, The Drums are thrilled to share the new “Down By The Water” video. Produced by Brian & Brad Palmer of SURROUND & The Drums, the video reflects the band’s vision of elegant simplicity. “Both the video and song are a tribute to the girl groups of the 50′s and 60′s, a great inspiration to the band and one of the reasons we started it,” explains the band. A true departure from earlier singles the band slows the tempo showing their versatility with this new track.

Stacked against the summer’s dance-inducing releases, “Down By The Water” is a breath of fresh air. Paring the production down to a slow bass line, light percussion, & a distant synthesizer, the most pronounced instrument is Jonny Pierce’s voice, which opens softly and elevates to a sharp croon. The minimalist production however, does not negate the intensity of the lyrics. “Down By The Water” is a love song. “Everybody’s gotta love someone, but I just want to love you dear… you’ve got to believe me when I say the words forever,” pleads Pierce.
