Mind Reader

Ever since he released his 1st mixtape in 06, Brooklyn producer & DJ phenomenon Kingdom has been garnering a rabid following for his signature sets & productions, which blend bass-heavy, dance-savvy sounds from around the globe with a distinct R&B sensibility & emotional depth.

His ecstatic & unique approach to club music has already caught the ear of tastemakers & has the Guardian calling him “One To Watch for 2010.” Fortunately, the music more than lives up to the buzz!

Debut single “Mind Reader” is one of the year’s most anticipated releases for all the right reasons. The new-school diva epic features the indelible vocals of Shyvonne over garage-inspired, hybrid beats, & comes backed by an equally anthemic remix from house legend Todd Edwards (in fine cut-up form!), along with two vanguard takes from L-Vis 1990 & Bok Bok. Another Kingdom original, the impassioned club cut “You,” rounds out the set & makes this single a true must-have.

Digitals are available now on iTunes, 12″ is on it’s way, & a limited-edition 10″ featuring the original “Mind Reader” & “You” is currently available from Acephale (Salem, Memory Tapes).

CFCF releases debut full-length: Continent

More Paper Bag related news…

Montreal-based DJ & electronic artist CFCF (aka Michael Silver) releases his anticipated full-length debut, Continent, today on Paper Bag Records. The 12-track album (which features Silver’s own spin on Fleetwood Mac’s song “Big Love”) is the followup to CFCF’s set of celebrated EPs, Panesian Nights & The Explorers (featuring label mate Sally Shapiro), both released earlier this year.

CFCF has been creating tracks since his pre-teens & has only begun to present his music publicly in the last couple of years. CFCF’s career began to take off with his contest winning remix of Crystal Castles “Air War” & has followed up with a chain reaction of official remixes for talents such as Sally Shapiro, The Presets, HEALTH, The Teenagers & Hearts Revolution among many others.

“For the songs on this album I usually started with an idea in mind of a specific atmosphere I wanted to convey,” says Silver. “That atmosphere, whether it was something hazy, nostalgic, otherworldly or unsettling, was always the first thing to come to a track. The songs range from mid-tempo nu-disco to balearic, house to ambient. Often the basis of the atmosphere was culled from films by Werner Herzog, Michael Mann, David Lynch, and David Cronenberg as well as countless musical influences including Arthur Russell, Saint Etienne, and Tangerine Dream.”

Free song from CFCF: Monolith

Montreal-based DJ & electronic artist CFCF (aka Michael Silver) is preparing for the release of his first full-length debut album, Continent, on Paper Bag Records. As CFCF works his way towards Continent, he will first release, The Explorers EP, featuring label mate Sally Shapiro on October 6th.

The songs that make up Continent were created at Silver’s home studio between the fall of 2008 & this summer with no hard deadlines for their completion. This gave Silver the opportunity to allow his ever-changing listening habits & influences reflect in the songs. The end result is an album that shifts effortlessly between several styles & sounds while fitting together as a diverse but cohesive package. There is common theme running through Continent’s songs even if it is not easy to pinpoint or describe.

The Montreal native has been creating tracks since his pre-teens & has only begun to present his music publicly in the last couple of years. CFCF’s career began to take off with his contest winning remix of Crystal Castles “Air War” & has followed up with a chain reaction of official remixes for talents such as Sally Shapiro, The Presets, HEALTH, The Teenagers & Hearts Revolution among many others.
