Dead Confederate release free live LP

Dead Confederate just wrapped up their 2009 touring through Europe with Alberta Cross & finished in the United Kingdom with J Mascis & the fog in support of the release of Wrecking Ball across the pond. They are now offering a free download of a new Live LP, Dirty Ammo (get it via the widget below).

The material was recorded live at The Earl in Atlanta, GA this past May & features 7 tracks in total. The LP showcases the band’s signature live intensity on 4 original songs (from the bands EP & studio album) & 1 previously un-relesased new song, “Guns,” as well as two covers – Elliot Smith’s “Roman Candle” & Officer May’s “Smoking a Minor.” The LP will also be available with an optional $1 donation to help rebuild the Georgia Theater, which was destroyed by fire in June 2009. There is an additional option to buy a vinyl copy of the album as well as a t-shirt.

Dead Confederate announce N. American dates

Hailing from Athens, Georgia, Dead Confederate’s music is best described as intense, lumbering, southern, psychedelic grizzly rock. They burst onto the scene with their self titled EP soon followed by an opening spot for R.E.M. at SXSW in early 2008. Later that year, they released their debut full length album, Wrecking Ball, to innumerable raves from tastemakers and press alike. Rolling Stone selected Dead Confederate as a “Band to Watch” and they made their U.S. television debut on NBC’s Late Night With Conan O’Brien with their 1st single “The Rat.”

Dead Confederate toured the U.S. this past March with fellow Georgians, The Whigs & in April with legendary rockers Dinosaur Jr. The band also stopped in Austin, TX for a number of SXSW shows. They have spent the last few months touring with various bands such as Drive By Truckers, Manchester Orchestra, Yeasayer, the Black Angels, Deerhunter & Black Lips among others & also played U.S. festivals such as Bonnaroo & Sasquatch.

In September they’ll embark on a co-headline tour with Meat Puppets & by the end of October with A Place to Bury Strangers (all dates below).

Dead Confederate featured as Yahoo! “Who’s Next” artist

It’s been quite the year for Athens, GA five-piece Dead Confederate. After bursting on the scene with their critically-acclaimed full-length debut, Wrecking Ball, the band has been touring across the country, currently on the last leg home with fellow Georgians Manchester Orchestra.

In the wake of their television debut on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, as well as being one of Rolling Stone’s “Six Artists To Watch,” Dead Confederate has been chosen as a nominee for Yahoo! Music’s “Who’s Next” User’s Choice competition. The video for their single, “The Rat,” will be featured for a month on Yahoo! Music. The artist with the most votes at the end of the voting period wins and gets the opportunity to perform live at the Yahoo! Music studio to tape a performance and interview. The winner’s in-studio performance will then be promoted for the following month as the feature artist on the Who’s Next? page and the Yahoo! Music homepage. The video for “The Rat” will also be featured on MTV2 “Subterranean” and MTVU, and will be part of FUSE TV’s “Free Music” and “The Worm” programs.
