New video from Kinky: Those Girls

Kinky has a brand new video for “Those Girls” featuring Randy Ebright, the only white kid in uber cool Mexican band Molotov! The video features a bunch of topless girls on a boxing ring. Don’t worry it’s office safe, boobs are covered with 8-bit video game inspired icons.

Kinky at Hotel Congress (update)

I stood in the back of Hotel Congress patiently waiting for the band Kinky to stumble off their massive tour bus & participate in a short interview I had prepared for them. We were told by the manager they had just begun a movie so he was not sure how long it would be. After about 10 minutes the door opened and the lead singer Gil Cerezo walked toward me with a warm smile on his face and an extended hand that drew me near to plant a kiss on my cheek. Having family from Mexico also, this is something I am used to and love about the culture. As Jandro our videographer set up the equipment for the shoot I complimented Gil on the scarf wrapped neatly around his neck even though we stood in the middle of Tucson, Arizona. He said it was to keep him from getting sick on the bus that they keep at a very low temperature. He also gave me a compliment right back by saying he really liked my Rihanna inspired haircut. We began the interview and he answered my questions in his Latin accent and had very witty and intriguing answers for all of them. He poked fun at how despite my roots, I fail to pronounce their newest album Barracuda with a double R. I was pleasantly surprised by his hospitality being the lead singer & most recognized (in the past I’ve met lead singers that are less than humble and down to earth); he offered us something to drink & even to come hang out on the bus till the show began since it was not till a few hours later. We did agree to a few bottles of water, but unfortunately had things to do prior to show time.

We got into our spots early before the show began because we were told by the manager of Congress that their last performance there was nearly sold out and fans all the way from Mexico drive down to see them play. One by one they began pouring into the venue to hear the DJ they had playing first. Everyone was already dancing around and having a great time. Then came time for Kinky to hit the stage, they all filed in one by one each having their own individual style. From a cowboy hat, to 80’s style aviators and the new clear lens black Ray Ban Wayfarers each member stands out. They began with their new song “Those girls” & everyone chanted and sang along. Two of what seemed like their biggest fans in the front row were completely giddy and blew multiple kisses to bass player Cesar Pliego. It was the most fun I’ve had at a show in a while; I immediately fell in love with all their songs because of the way they incorporate electro & rock with an underlying Latin feel. You can tell they are a pretty tight knit band by the way they interact on stage together, & that must be true since they have been together since 1998. I am now definitely a huge fan and have them downloaded on my new iTouch. I have a strong feeling they will be around for quite sometime & I look forward to what’s next!

New Kinky album: Barracuda

Ritmo movido.

Granted, Kinky sings in Spanish giving us only two and a half songs in English in their new album, Barracuda. However, one of this band’s strengths is rhythm and ‘dance inspiring’ qualities. If you are into their beat, I doubt there will be much of a language barrier for you.

Get the album on iTunes & give “TachiMariPedonCogon” (yeah, very normal name, no?) a listen & you may just find something you like.

Enjoy y Paz!

Miguel de Zubeldia
