New video from One for the Team: Ha Ha

One For The Team went bowling in Des Moines. The band decided to capture the moment & turn it into the official video for their song “Ha Ha” off their EP Build A Garden. FYI, this EP was named by Amazon as one of the “Best 2009 Albums You (probably) Haven’t Heard”.

Fun fact: Ian Anderson (vocals & guitar) was actually a member of his High School Bowling Team.

One For The Team releases new EP + May tour

Afternoon Records is thrilled to announce the April 14th release of Build A Garden, the new EP from the Minneapolis based One For The Team. The EP is the 3rd studio effort from the band. The 8 song EP is comprised of 4 re-arranged and re-recorded songs from their recent LP Build It Up, and 4 new compositions. Build A Garden is/was available as a limited pressing of 500 hand-made copies, & is also be available for digital download HERE.

Their recent sophomore release Build It Up (2008), took One For The Team to new heights. NPR’s Second Stage described it as “jangly power pop, with glimmering unisex harmonies,” going on to note the band’s “unabashed optimism that manages to be contagious without being overly precious or earnest.” As Spin.com put it, One For The Team “won over our hearts with their sophomore album, Build It Up.” (Watch One For The Team play acoustic in the Spin Offices) The band toured extensively, visiting 38 states & playing over 180 dates, sharing time on the road with Dressy Bessy, Frightened Rabbit, The French Kicks, & Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin among others.

One For The Team began in earnest in 2006 by Ian Anderson as an outlet for the pop-songs that didn’t quite fit the aesthetic of his then band Aneuretical. With the help of bass player John Krueger & drummer Elliot Manthey, they released Good Boys Don’t Make Noise. While it was very well received, the band remained largely a studio project until Anderson finished undergrad. Following that, One For The Team toured extensively and went through a few lineup changes including the addition of Grace Fiddler, who’s dual vocals with Anderson have come to be essential to the band’s sound. The pair sing in beautiful harmony throughout most of their recent recordings & during live shows. The lineup eventually settled upon today’s current incarnation, with Anderson, Fiddler, & Manthey forming the core of One For The Team.

Build A Garden is just in time & very aptly titled for the coming of spring. Fans will have a chance to hear the airy melodies that make up the EP live on the road over the next few months as One For The Team play shows (May’s schedule below) & continue working on & preparing for the release of their next full-length album.
