In the wake of the unprecedented VEVO premiere of their visually stunning “Heart of Stone” video, The Raveonettes have unveiled two covers of the jangly anthem performed by a pair of indie rock luminaries. Recent Sub Pop signees & rising Los Angelinos Dum Dum Girls cut the song’s already lean runtime down by a minute & infused it with their signature reverb-soaked twinkle, managing to pack its widescreen cinematic flare into what now sounds like a charmingly vintage 45” single.

The second cover, premiered over at Vice, is a slowed down, fuzzed out psych-rock banger by Brooklyn darlings Amazing Baby. Singer Will Roan channels his inner T. Rex amidst chugging guitars & warbly synths, while the 6 1/2 minute track finds its center amidst guitarist Simon O’Connor’s raging solo at the 3 minute mark. In Simon’s own words, “I have always loved The Raveonettes, always wanted to rip off their riffs. When we heard ‘Heart of Stone’ we were all a little worried because we thought the original was perfect – exactly how we would want it. So I guess we just slowed it down and made it less Danish.”

When dashing Danish duo The Raveonettes released In & Out Of Control to the masses last month, fans lucky enough to purchase the record from select indie retailers were rewarded with an exclusive bonus disc featuring “Planes Do Crash” & “The Chosen One,” two never-before-heard tracks. Record Store Day powered the promotion, pointing exclusive-hunters to retailers where the bonus disc was available. Of course, it was a “while supplies last” deal, so only a handful are still available (check out the website for details). No doubt die-hard fans of the Danish noise-pop duo The Raveonettes trembled with excitement when they previewed a demo version of “Last Dance” this June. 3 months later, the band is releasing the final version of the song as the lead off single from their forthcoming album In And Out Of Control (out October 6th on VICE Records).

Along with the recently leaked album track “Suicide”, & the series of stripped down teaser performances from the iTunes bonus video featurette The Chelsea Sessions, “Last Dance” provides a promising glimpse of The Raveonettes’ wildly anticipated 4th studio album. Perhaps their most ambitious release to date, In And Out Of Control combines the noir-garage rock sounds of their early releases with the darkness of 2008’s Lust Lust Lust for a mixture of 11 equally morose yet ecstatic pop gems.
