You Say Party! We Say Die! announce 3rd album

British Columbia’s You Say Party! We Say Die! (aka YSP!WSD!) are back! Having reinvented themselves with their spirited style of New-Wave, & a new depth of material, the band is excited to announce the details of their much-anticipated third release, XXXX, out on Paper Bag Records on Sept. 29th. YSP!WSD! has embraced soul, feeling, & rhythm while still bearing the tenets of their original sound, which caused critics around the globe to embrace the band’s first 2 albums, Hit the Floor! & Lose All Time.

After years of touring, hundreds of shows worldwide, & countless van hours together, patience has become a virtue to lead singer Becky Ninkovic, bassist Stephen O’Shea, keyboardist Krista Loewen, guitarist Derek Adam & drummer Devon Clifford. In late 2007, during a sixteen-week fall/winter tour of Canada & Europe, the band had reached a breaking point. It happened during a physical confrontation at the legendary “Rock and Roll Herberge” in Berlin, ending with Ninkovic being thrown into the street by two beefy German punk rockers.

Road-weary & listless, the group were desperate for new inspiration. This came in the spring of 2008 when they were offered the opportunity to tour China & Japan for the first time. The group’s experience in Asia brought them closer together than they had ever been, & a new motivation to love each other and “do whatever it takes” was found. Thus, the seed of XXXX had sprouted within the You Say Party family. Members began paying attention to their personal lives again, pursuing artistic endeavors & meaningful employment. They provided supportive care for adults living with disabilities, aid to the poor in developing countries, & services for the homeless in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side & the message was put forth that “the loving is the everything.”

The rest of 2008 was spent creating the songs that grew to become XXXX. Collaborating with producer Howard Redekop (Tegan & Sara, The New Pornographers), XXXX’s recording started in January & will end this August, & is their most intensive effort to date.

YSP! WSD! will embark on a N. American tour in support of XXXX, & are looking forward to returning to the US for the first time in several years.

Montag to release mini-album next Tuesday + remixes

Montag is a Montreal based artist who you might know from his ’07 release Going Places which featured artists like M83, Final Fantasy, Beach House & more! Recently Montag has been releasing a series of remixes for the likes of M83, Au Revoir Simone, You Say Party! We Say Die!, I’m From Barcelona & more. Other side projects have included several collaborations with contemporary dance & theatre artists in Vancouver & Montreal, and scoring an animation film Montag has also spent time touring in Japan, Mexico, France, Singapore, Holland, Belgium, the UK, US & across Canada.

Hibernation is inspired by the long & cold winters of Montag’s present life in Montréal & early childhood in Nunavik, Quebec. Only a few weeks following his return to Montreal (after spending three years in Vancouver) the temperature dropped below zero, Montag bundled up & stayed in with his synths & souvenirs, putting together a series of wintry compositions in a two-week recording session. Returning to Montreal also inspired a stylistic return to his earlier work, & on Hibernation, Montag offers a soundtrack for chilly winter nights, a sonic blanket of warm strings & old synths assembled in nostalgic and crystalline melodies.

The first single from “La Symetrie du Coeur” is streaming now on imeem & his myspace. The mini-album (7 tracks + bonus tracks) will be released worldwide by Paper Bag Digital on Feb 17th.

In the meanwhile, here’s his latest remix of Boy in Static’s new single “Young San Francisco” & then one more, one of my favorite actually for You Say Party! We Say Die!.
